SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University women's soccer team made it back-to-back wins on Saturday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Stadium. The Thunder defeated their hosts, Wittenberg University, by a score of 2-1.
Maggie McDowell and
Gracie Pyle scored unassisted to secure the win.
Trine outshot the Tigers 15-8 and 10-3 in shots on target.
Johannah Houtkooper faced three shots in goal, stopping a pair. Trine moves to 3-3-3 on the year with the win.
As they have all year, the Thunder quickly made their presence felt in their attacking zone, firing off four shots in the first ten minutes. Pyle drew a save in the ninth minute and McDowell gave Trine the lead just 30 seconds later with her third goal of the year. Trine found just two shots the rest of the half and Wittenberg evened the count at one in the 43
rd minute.
The Thunder formed a more consistent attack in the second half, softening the defense with four shots before Pyle struck in the 61
st minute with a goal of her own. Houtkooper made both her saves with Trine holding a 2-1 lead to preserve the victory.
The Thunder host Alma College in their MIAA opener on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on Shive Field.
