ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team hosted the second ranked team in the country according to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III poll. Case Western Reserve University will return home with a 2-0 victory.
The Thunder played a strong first half to the contest, with Brandon Walker leading the defensive effort. Walker made three saves in the first half and took a shutout into the final minutes of the period. The Spartans finally broke through in the 44th minute taking a 1-0 lead.
Trine looked out of sorts to begin the second half and Case Western took advantage of the mistakes in the 53rd minute. The second goal gave them a 2-0 lead. Walker continued his strong game in the rest of the game, finishing the contest with seven saves despite the two goals allowed.
Offensively, the Thunder had their opportunities throughout the contest. Jonah Sipes led that effort with three shots on goal.
Trine falls to 2-5-1 overall after the loss. They will now hit the road to face Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, September 30. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
