NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team overcame a first half deficit but two late goals gave their hosts from Manchester University the 3-1 victory.
The Spartans struck first with the lone goal of the first half, taking the 1-0 lead into the intermission. The Thunder led slightly in shots during the first half, 5-3, but failed to force a save.
Just a few minutes out of the intermission Ben Borak tied the game for Trine. The Manchester keeper boomed a kick to midfield to start the play, with Jonah Sipes winning the free ball with a massive header. The ball landed at the 40 yard line before bouncing toward goal. A Manchester defender attempted to forward it back to the keeper, but Borak fought wrestled through the opposition to gain possession. His shot went into the top of the net over the charging keeper.
The 1-1 draw held into the final ten minutes of regulation, when Manchester scored a pair of goals in a two-minute stretch to clinch the game.
The Thunder fall to 2-4-1 following the loss. The team will next take the pitch when they host Case Western Reserve University, who is currently ranked second in the nation according to the United Soccer Coaches. That match is set to be played at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26.
