OBERLIN, Ohio – The Trine University volleyball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at the Oberlin College tri-match. Trine (5-5) topped the host Yeos before falling to Baldwin Wallace in the second game.
Elli Baker led Trine with 24 kills.
Trine defeated Oberlin in four sets 25-20, 15-25, 25-15, and 25-19. The Thunder fell behind 14-5 in the first set before coming to life to steal the set. Baker led the rally with a full house of three aces and two kills. Trine scored the final eight points of the set. Oberlin again took a large lead in set two, this time they would not squander the advantage this time, winning the set convincingly.
Baker nailed four kills to erase an 11-10 lead and give Trine a decisive 25-15 victory in set three. Trine kept the pedal down in set four, taking a 10-1 lead and never allowing the Yeowomen to mount a rally. Trine tallied 18 aces on the day, tied for the fifth most in a single match and the second most in a four set match.
Trine dropped the second match to Baldwin Wallace in straight sets. The Thunder led the undefeated Yellow Jackets for most of the first set before the Jackets took the final seven points.
Julia Maggio led Trine with 10 kills, five coming in the second set. BW finished the sweep with a 25-16 win in set three.
Trine travels to Franklin College on Wednesday evening for their next match.
