FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Trine University volleyball team fell to Franklin College on Wednesday night at the Spurlock Center. The Grizzlies (13-1) claimed convincing victories in the first two sets and held off the Thunder (5-6) in the final set for the sweep.
Julia Maggio led Trine with nine kills and
Jordan Budzinski added 16 digs. The Grizzlies took the match 25-12, 25-8, 25-22.
Franklin were not gracious hosts, storming out to a 12-4 lead in set one and continued to pull away the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead. Franklin's offense was the story of the second set, hitting .600 enroute to a convincing win.
Trine got five kills from Maggio in the third set as the Thunder battled to avoid a sweep.
Alexis Dreher added four more swings to provide more offense for Trine. TU hit .250 in the final set but were unable to overcome the Grizzlies' momentum and stave off a sweep.
Trine returns to action on Friday night at Hershey Hall when they play host to the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
