FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Trine University's Sydney Adolfson has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week after leading the Thunder to their fifth-straight MIAA Softball Tournament championship.
This is the junior's first MIAA Athlete of the Week award and the first time a Thunder pitcher has been recognized this season. Along with Debbie Hill, this is the third and fourth time that a member of the team has earned the weekly honor.
The Newton, Conn. native was the pitcher of record in two of the three victories by the team this past week. She finished the tournament with 11-and-a-third innings of work, allowing seven runs on 16 hits and three walks. She struck out four along the way. Most importantly she secured the pair of wins, including a complete game 21-4 victory against Calvin University and then the decisive 7-5 victory against the Knights.
That second victory secured the championship for the Thunder and the league's automatic berth. Both teams in the championship contest were ultimately selected for the 2026 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. Trine is set to host a regional beginning on Thursday, May 14.
