ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team picked up another Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) sweep taking down Albion College twice. The longball led the way for the Thunder, with the team finishing the pair of games with 10 homers from six student-athletes.
The Britons made the first game interesting during the opening three innings. Trine struck first with a two-run shot from Emma Lee in the second inning but Albion responded with a two-run homer in the third. The bottom of the third inning saw the Thunder record three home runs for five runs. Karley Trine, Tyra Marcum and Clare Feehan had one.
Albion had another homer in the fifth, but Trine pulled away through the rest of the game. Debbie Hill eventually ended the game in the sixth with a three-run home run that made the score 13-3. Lee had a second home run in the contest. Jo Trine had two RBI-singles in the game, the only runs that came from hits inside of the park.
Kami Arnett made the start for the Thunder and went three and a third innings while allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. She finished with two strikeouts. Alex Rodriguez had the win after finishing the game with two and two thirds innings. She allowed one run on two hits while striking out one.
Trine posted a truly crooked number in the second inning of game two, leading the way to a 19-1 victory. 16 of those runs came in the second, two in the first and one in the fourth, while the Britons scored their run in the fifth inning.
Jo Trine led the way with five RBIs in the game, notching two more homers and another hit. Lee was second with four RBIs, adding another homer and one more hit to her daily total. Macy Rocha and Mylee Boling each had three RBIs. Boling did so with the second homer of her career while Rocha had a double. Whitney Duell was the final multi-RBI player finishing with two, Feehan and Natalie Summers both had one.
Sydney Adolfson started the game with a perfect two innings, allowing no baserunners while striking out one. Hill finished off the game, taking the perfect scorecard into fourth. She finished with the win while allowing one run on four hits. She struck out three.
It was a historic day for Hill in the batters' box where she recorded the 54th double of her career, the most by any Trine student-athlete during the program's history. She also closed in on an even bigger record, the NCAA Division III record for most walks in a career. She needs two more walks to own the record.
Trine finishes the day 23-1 overall and 8-0 in MIAA play. They are next set to play when they host The University of Olivet on Thursday, April 23. The first game of that doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
