ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team picked up another convincing pair of victories against The University of Olivet. The Thunder once again exploded offensively in the games, combining for nine homers on the day, with Clare Feehan serving as the star with four on her own.
The Comets struggled to find the strike zone during the opening innings of the first game. The Thunder walked in two of their first three runs before Feehan had her first grand slam of the day for a 7-0 lead. Trine never looked back after the lead, pulling away to a 22-2 victory in five innings.
Feehan led the game with seven RBIs coming off of two home runs and a single. She also stole second and forced a pair of errors to score another run. Debbie Hill and Emma Lee tied for second with four RBIs each. Hill did it with two hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Lee had a three-run homer and a walk. Keelin Wheaton was the final batter with more than one RBI in the contest, finishing her game in relief with two hits and three RBIs. Tyra Marcum had the fourth and final home run of the contest. She joined Addie Charles and Macy Rocha with one RBI each.
Hill made the start in the circle and took a perfect game into the fourth inning. She finished with the win after four innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits. She struck out eight. Sydney Adolfson finished the game allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.
The offense slowed to start the second game, but Trine still eventually pulled away to a 16-1 victory. Lee walked in another run in the first inning to earn the first RBI of the day. Marcum brought in the next with a single in the third inning before Feehan cleared the bases again with her second grand slam of the day. Those runs made the score 9-0 in the third.
The fourth saw the Thunder go back-to-back-to-back with home runs. Feehan started the streak with a three-run shot before Mylee Boling and Wheaton each added a solo effort. The team had five more runs in the fifth with Wheaton coming up with a three-run homer of her own. Rocha and Boling had the other RBIs to make the score 16-0.
Alex Rodriguez made the start in the circle for the team and held a shutout until there was one out in the fifth inning. She still earned a 16-1 victory, allowing just the one run on two hits and three walks. She struck out nine in the effort.
