ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University baseball team fell to the Adrian College Bulldogs twice on Friday afternoon to close out their series. Trine (8-26, 4-11 MIAA) fell 11-1 in game one and 9-0 in game two.
Nathan Gilmet led Trine with four hits on the day.
Trine struck first in game one with an RBI single from
Luke Metzler to score the lone run on the day. Trine kept it close through seven innings allowing four runs but missed scoring opportunities in the fourth and seventh prevented a rally. Five runs from the nationally ranked Bulldogs in the ninth erased the Thunder's hopes of a comeback.
The Thunder again held the #23 Bulldogs in check for a large portion of game two. The Bulldogs scored one in the second, two in the third and another in the fourth. Trine's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth with a runner on third, Adrian's pitcher ended the opportunity with a strikeout. Adrian pushed the lead to nine in the eighth and stifled a bases loaded opportunity in the ninth to seal the sweep.
The Thunder host Albion College next Friday at 4 p.m. at Jannen Field.
