Men's Golf Wins Bob Ebels Invitational

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team claimed the Hope College Bob Ebels Invitational on Saturday afternoon by a commanding 18 strokes. Trine's 585 strokes are the sixth least in a 36-hole tournament.
 
Central College (Iowa) was second with 603 strokes, the host Dutch were third with 605n and Calvin University was fourth with 608. Ethan Tiller of Calvin was the individual medalist with a two day score of even par, 142 strokes, at The Meadows at Grand Valley State.
 
Garrett James and Jake Bilby led the Thunder in a tie for second place with two day totals of 145 strokes. Both men shot three over on Friday and even par this afternoon.
 
James notched 11 pars and two birdies on day one and 10 pars and two more birdies on Saturday. The highlight of the round came on hole nine, a 510-yard par five, James found the bottom of the cup in just three shots to notch an eagle.
 
Bilby also carded an eagle, his coming on the 526-yard par five fourth. He added nine pars and four birdies to complete his round this afternoon. On Friday he tallied 74 strokes with 10 pars and three birdies.
 
Carter Schnike placed sixth individually with 146 strokes. Schnipke was the low round for Trine on Friday with a 72. He found the hole early on four separate occasions. 11 pars and two birdies highlighted a day two score of 74 for the senior.
 
Jack Besner was tenth with a two day score of 149 strokes. The sophomore made three birdies, on three, nine, and fourteen this afternoon for a 74. He made three others on Friday, coming on holes nine, fourteen, and seventeen for a 75.
 
Trine heads to the Steven Tyler Memorial Invitational on Monday at the Moors Golf Club in Portage, Michigan.
