COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Trine University softball team finished off their spring break slate of games with two more wins at the 2026 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Leadoff Classic. They defeated eighth-ranked East Texas Baptist University 9-4 before taking down Gettysburg College 9-2.
The Thunder opened the day against the Tigers and score a pair of runs in the first inning. Tyra Marcum brought in the first run with a triple to right field before scampering home on an error caused by Emma Lee. The team added another lead on a flyball out in the third inning from Lee.
The Tigers erased the lead in the fifth with three runs of their own. Trine responded quickly with a huge bottom half of the same frame. Natalie Summers and Marcum both had homers in the inning, but Summers' plated four runs compared to just one by Marcum. Lee brought in the other run of the inning with a double. ETBU scored once more to finish the game with the 9-4 score.
Kami Arnett started the game and finished her four allowing two runs on two walks and two hits. Debbie Hill finished the final three innings and also allowed two runs on two walks and two hits. Both also struck out two.
The Thunder struck first in the second game of the day as well. They scored three runs in the first, with Hill, Lee and Abbie Geib coming up with RBIs. The Bullets scored their two runs in the bottom of the first before Marcum and Hill made the score 6-2 in the beginning of the second. Lee and Michaela Doiron each reached base on an error in the fourth, both bringing in a run along the way. In the top of the fifth Hill finished the score with an RBI double.
The two teams started the sixth inning but the game was called early due to travel plans. The final of 9-2 in the fifth was made final.
Sydney Adolfson pitched the first four innings allowing two runs on four hits. She had one strikeout. Alex Rodriguez pitched the final inning and allowed just one hit and two walks.
Trine will return home with an 11-1 record. They will next take the field at home when they host Anderson (Ind.) University for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 21. Those games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
