Softball Sweeps Anderson, Postpones Tomorrow's Doubleheader

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team picked up two more wins for their record with a home opening sweep of Anderson (Ind.) University. The Thunder won the first game 8-0 in six innings before taking the second by the score of 6-1.

The team opened the scoring in the second inning of the game. Clare Feehan and Maddie Cortez had the first RBIs, bringing in a pair of runs with sacrifice plays. Trine added to the 2-0 lead in the third inning with four runs. Debbie Hill and Macy Rocha each brought in one with a single before Emma Lee brought in another with a sacrifice fly. Heads up baserunning by Skylar Brodie scored a second run on Lee's flyout, making the score 6-0.

Keelin Wheaton ended the game early with a bases-loaded single that brought in a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kami Arnett made the start in the contest and finished with three strong innings of work. She allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out one. Hill finished the game and earned the win with three hitless innings of work. She struck out four batters along the way.

Trine's offense started off just as hot in the second game. Rocha brought in a pair of runs in her first at bat, with a single to left center. The team added four more runs in the bottom of the second. Karley Trine, Tyra Marcum, Hill and Wheaton each had RBIs in the inning on the way to the 6-0 lead.

Sydney Adolfson allowed the lone run of the game for Anderson in the third inning. It was the lone mark against the junior who finished with a win after four innings of work. She allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out four. Alex Rodriguez finished the game and earned a save with three innings of work. She allowed just one more hit and a walk while striking out two.

The Thunder improve to 13-1 after the victory. The team was scheduled to travel to the University of Mount Union tomorrow, Sunday, March 22, but those games have been postponed due to field conditions. The teams are currently looking for a makeup date.

In the meantime, Trine will next take the field when they travel to face Ohio Northern University on Tuesday, March 24. That doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
