KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University baseball team closed out its MIAA opening series against the 20
th-ranked Kalamazoo College Hornets on Monday afternoon with a 16-7 loss. Trine (4-18, 0-3 MIAA) was led by
Luke Burford's trio of hits. The Hornets improve to 19-2 (3-0 MIAA).
The Thunder copied the Hornets game plan for yesterday, taking a 5-0 lead.
Spencer Rodriguez drove in Burford who led off the game with a single. Trine added four more in the second, first on a fielding error that scored
Kyle Martin and then
Sam Beckham scored on a wild pitch.
Kai Jones notched a 2 RBI double to give Trine the 5-0 lead.
Kalamazoo quickly responded with five runs of their own in the home half of the inning to tie the game. The Hornets then added nine more runs over the next three innings to build a 14-5 advantage. A wild pitch once again plated Beckham and an RBI from
Justin Hamberg scored
Josh Peremba. Kalamazoo closed out the win with the final two runs.
Trine continues MIAA play tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. contest against The University of Olivet.
