Thunder Sweep Polar Bears

ADA, Ohio – The Trine University softball team picked up two more wins in a road doubleheader against Ohio Northern University. The team took the first game 5-3 before run-ruling in the second game 10-1 in six innings.

Tyra Marcum started the scoring in the first inning of the day, coming up with her third homer of the season and plating two runs. Whitney Duell brought in another in the second inning with a single.

The 3-0 lead ended up being short lived with the Polar Bears scoring three in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Debbie Hill responded with a leadoff, solo homerun. The senior then took over pitching duties in the next inning. She ultimately secured the win with five innings of work. She allowed just four hits, a walk and no runs while striking out five.

Macy Rocha added an insurance run in the seventh, with a single down the left field line. After one last strong inning by Hill, the game ended with the 5-3 score.

The Thunder again took a lead in the first inning of the second game. Rocha brought in the first run of the game with another single. In the third, Emma Lee homered for two more runs and the 3-0 lead.

Those runs were just a preview of the offense in the fifth and the sixth innings. Trine scored seven runs in those two innings. Marcum, Hill, Lee and Kennedy Huckeby each had RBIs in the fifth. Duell, Hill and Lee added one more each in the sixth.

With the 10-0 lead, Sydney Adolfson needed just three more outs to secure the victory. She allowed one run on the way but ultimately succeeded in finishing out the six innings. She finished the game allowing six hits while striking out thre.

Trine improves to 15-1 overall after the pair of wins. They are next scheduled to compete when they host Earlham College on Sunday, March 29. That doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
