ANGOLA, Ind. – The #21 Trine University Women's Basketball team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Thunder will play Shenandoah University at Denison University on Friday. This marks Trine's ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Trine finished 25
th in the NCAA's NPI Rankings and took the 14
th of 21 at-large bids. The Thunder are currently 22-5 and claimed their second consecutive MIAA Regular Season Championship. Trine is 14-7 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and have won at least one game in all eight of their previous appearances.
This will be the first match up between the Thunder and Hornets. Shenandoah earned the 19
th at-large bid in the tournament following a run to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinals. The Hornets finished the season 20-7 overall and boast three wins over ranked opponents this season.
A Thunder win would set up a match up with either Denison or Southern Virginia. Denison claimed the third at-large bid after a semifinal appearance in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Big Red claimed the NCAC Regular Season Championship. Trine is 5-1 all-time against the Big Red. Trine has won the last four, the last coming in November 2021.
Trine and Southern Virginia have never met, the Knights earned the USA South's automatic bid to the big dance with an 82-74 win over Brevard College.
Trine will play Shenandoah on Friday with the game time to be announced later.
