Trine Finishes Florida Trip with Two More Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Trine University softball team picked up two more wins to wrap up their time in Florida. The team came back to capture a 4-2 victory against Illinois College before defeating Susquehanna University 13-0 in five innings.

The Thunder trailed for just the second time this season during the first game of the day. The Lady Blues plated a run in the fourth and then another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Trine responded in the bottom of the fifth with RBI hits from Kennedy Huckeby and Karley Trine. The team took a lead of their own in the sixth with a single from Brylie Couch and then a double steal with Emma Lee scampering home.

In the circle Sydney Adolfson made the start and went four and two thirds of an inning. She finished having allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Debbie Hill finished out the game with three strikeouts.

Trine's offense finally got going in the second game of the day's slate. Nine different members of the team had RBIs in the 13-0 victory over the Lady Blues. Keelin Wheaton led the way going three-for-three with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Hill had a bases clearing double to also finish with three RBIs. Macy Rocha also finished perfect at the plate, going two-for-two with a double and an RBI. Maddie Cortez went two-for-three with a double and one RBI of her own.

Alex Rodriguez pitched all five innings for the Thunder, earning her first win of the season and the first shutout of her career. She finished the game allowing just two hits and walks while striking out seven.

Trine finishes the first half of their spring break trip with a 6-0 record. They will now enjoy three days off as they travel to Columbus, Ga. for the 2026 NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. The event begins on Friday, March 6 with the Thunder facing Bethel (Minn.) University at 3 p.m. and Pacific Lutheran University at 5:30 p.m.
