HANOVER, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team turned in another convincing performance defeating their hosts from Hanover College 18-5. Mitchell Voglewede led the way offensively with a seven-point performance.
The Thunder scored the first nine goals of the game and never looked back. They scored seven in the first and two more in the second before the Panthers found the back of the net. Trine scored two more to finish the half with a 11-2 lead.
The team scored six more unanswered goals to start the second half. They added one more in the final minutes to finish the game with the 18-5 victory.
Voglewede led the team with four assists while finishing tied for second with three goals to lead the way with seven points. Riley Fischer led the team with four goals, while adding an assist to finish second on the team with five points. Chris Molnar and JJ Boos also had three goals each. Noah Ericson had two while Rocco Curatola, Vin Pantano and Aidan Kubiak each added another. Connor Ballantyne had three assist to finish second while Curatola had two.
J'Oshua Shaw led the defense with four caused turnovers, while Voglewede continued his day with three for himself. Voglewede also led the way with five groundballs with Shaw and Alec Jankowski adding four each. Jankowski led the team with nine faceoff wins (9-for-12) with Nick Fariello finishing second by going 8-for-10.
Zade Gawrys made the start for the Thunder in net and finished the game with the win after making two saves. Luke Arnold started the second half and made one saves in a shutout 17 minutes of play. Evan Dobyns, Owen Shelden and Ethan Eller all made appearances as well.
The Thunder improve to 8-1 overall following the win. They will return to action on Friday, March 20 when they head to Cincinnati, Ohio for a neutral site game hosted by Elder High School. The team will faceoff with Centenary College of Louisiana at 6 p.m.
