ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team picked up their sixth win of the season with a 17-1 victory over visiting Cornell (Iowa) College.
Rocco Curatola led the offense with six points while Danny Kelly paced the defense with seven caused turnovers and groundballs.
The game was never in doubt with the Thunder scoring the first 17 goals of the game. They tallied three in the first and fourth quarters while adding five in the second and six in the third. The Rams scored the final goal of the contest with just over a minute remaining.
JJ Boos and Mitchell Voglewede led the team with three goals each, while Curatola finished second with two. Chris Molnar, Caleb Edwards, Kramer Zastrow, Riley Fischer, Will Gonia, Landen Kruse, Connor Ballantyne, Mason Levin and Jackson Bell each tallied one goal in the game.
Curtola earned his other four points by leading the team in assists. Connor Luipold, Vin Pantano, Noah Ericson and Gonia each had one.
Kelly's seven caused turnovers led the team handily. The tally was nearly historic for the program, representing the second most in a single game. Only Dave Keptner, now an assistant coach, has recorded more with eight in a game in 2022. Kelly also led the team with his seven groundballs.
Levin was second on the team with two caused turnovers and tied for third with four groundballs. Molnar finished the game with five goundballs while J'Oshua Shaw and Curatola also had four.
Michael Scott went six-for-six at the faceoff dot with both Nick Fariello (5-10) and Alec Jankowski (3-6) finishing at fifty percent.
Five different members of the team saw time in goal, with none facing many shots. Zade Gawrys played the first half to earn the win with one save. Luke Arnold played just under 12 minutes in the third quarter with one more save. Evan Dobyns, Owen Shelden and Ethan Eller finished out the contest.
The Thunder finish the day 6-1 overall. They will host Edgewood University for their final non-conference home game of the season. That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
