Softball Run-Rules Twice

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Trine University softball team finished another day undefeated in Florida, picking up two run-rule wins. They opened the day with an 8-0 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin in six innings before defeating Johnson & Wales University 14-1 in five innings.

Freshman Kami Arnett made her first start of the season against the Falcons. She turned in a shutout win while allowing just three walks and two hits. Arnett recorded ten strikeouts in the contest.

Offensively the Thuner scored four runs in the first four innings before putting the game away in the sixth by doubling their score. Six different members of the team recorded RBIs in the game including Debbie Hill, Emma Lee, Whitney Duell, Karley Trine, Tyra Marcum and Macy Rocha. Clare Feehan had a triple and scored two runs in her first action of the season. Rocha had the only other extra base hit, a double in the sixth.

The other two runs scored on an error during Rocha's double and on a double steal involving Zaelyn Myles and Lee. Maddie Cortez and Duell also had steals.

The second game of the day got out of hand quickly. Trine scored five runs in the first inning, before adding three in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth for a total of 14. The Wildcats scored just one run in the fifth inning before the game ended early.

Lee led the way in the contest offensively, going two-for-two with two doubles and four RBIs. Duell and Brylie Couch each also had multiple runners batted in, two each. All told nine different members of the team had an RBI in the contest and eight members had a double.

Hill started the game and earned the win with three innings of work. She had four strikeouts in the game while allowing just two hits and one walk. Couch finished out the contest with two innings of work. She allowed one run on three hits.

The Thunder improve to 4-0 following the wins. They will finish the first half of their spring break trip tomorrow, Monday, March 2. They are set to face Illinois College at 9 a.m. and Susquehanna University at 11:15 a.m.
