Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight Season Opener

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team opened it's season with a 17-7 win over NAIA-foe Madonna (Mich.). Erin Fariello led with six goals in her first career game for Trine (1-0). Madonna falls to 0-2 with the loss.
 
Trine put the game in hand early with a 5-0 scoring advantage in the first quarter. Sydney Weiss struck first with an unassisted goal. Trine then scored three goals in 46 seconds. Fariello scored unassisted, then with help from Izabelle Dominski. She returned the favor 23 seconds later to make it 4-0. Fariello completed her first career hat trick in the first quarter with Trine's fifth goal.
 
Trine led the game in every major statistical category except for saves. Kelsey Yanagihara made nine stops in net, but Trine pelted the Crusaders with 39 shots and 27 on target, drawing 10 saves from the opposing keeper. Trine held a 15-9 advantage in draw controls and a 6-4 edge in ground balls. The Thunder were a perfect 16-of-16 on the clear.
 
Freshman Isabel Fischer added her first two career goals in the second quarter and Weiss completed her hat trick with another pair. Elizabeth Larson connected on a shot to give Trine a 10-2 edge at the break.
 
Hayden Dahlinger added two goals in the second half while Fariello completed a second half hat trick. Sienna Coventry dished to Weiss for a woman-up goal and Dominski scored unassisted as Trine wrapped up its fifth consecutive season opening win.
