Thunder Handle Pioneers

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 12-2 victory in their home opener against Carroll (Wis.) University. JJ Boos led the way offensively with five goals.

The game started slow, but the Thunder finally found the back of the net in the sixth and seventh minutes of the first quarter. Xavier Huber scored the first with an assist by Chris Molnar. Boos started his day with the second goal.

A stick check at the start of the second quarter gave Trine a three-minute man-up opportunity. They scored two goals with the advantage, one from Will Gonia and the other by Mitchell Voglewede with an assist by Landen Kruse.

Kramer Zastrow and Connor Ballantyne each scored to finish out the period, building the team's lead to 6-0. Jackson Bell added an assist.

Boos exploded in the third, scoring three goals to help build the lead to 11-0. Vin Pantano and Gonia added the others. Boos added one more in the fourth to finish the scoring with the 11-2 score.

Zade Gawrys played the game in net and finished with nine saves with just two goals allowed.

The Thunder improve to 2-0 following the win. They will return to the field tomorrow, Sunday, February 22 at 1 p.m. Heidelberg University will come to town for the game.
