SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University men's volleyball team fell in straight sets this evening at Pam Evans Smith Arena to the Wittenberg University Tigers.
Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai led with 11 kills and an ace. Trine falls to 8-8 (1-1 MCVL). The Tigers, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches' Poll, are 9-4 (1-0 MCVL).
Wittenberg took the match 25-11, 25-21, 25-21. The Tigers pounced on Trine early in set one with a 9-1 lead and never looked back, cruising to the win.
Trine would not lead in set two, but kept things much closer. Three kills from Ho'okano-Pelekai helped Trine tie the set at 7. Wittenberg pulled away from there and led 19-14 and closed out the set with three straight points by kill.
Trine earned a 10-9 lead in set three, it's first of the night with two more kills from Ho'okano-Pelekai and another from
Zach Mikrut. The Tigers flipped the script with a 3-0 run and never trailed again. They pulled away from a back and forth stalemate with another 3-0 run to take a 19-15 lead and eventually win the set and complete the sweep.
Trine hosts Adrian College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. as they continue MCVL play.
