Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Fails in Comeback Attempt

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team came up short in a comeback attempt, falling for the second day in a row to visiting Lawrence University. The final score was 2-1 in the contest.

The Vikings controlled the first two periods of the contest. They outshot the home side 7-5 in the first and 13-7 in the second. Those shots paid off during a pair of power plays in the second period, giving them a 2-0 lead for the third period.

The Thunder flipped the switch during that final intermission and turned in their best period of hockey for the weekend. They outshot the Vikings 20-1 during the stanza and scored the lone goal.

That goal came in the fifth minute of play. After Lawrence dumped the puck into the Trine's defensive zone, Aleah Bienek grabbed possession and worked her way into the neutral zone. She passed it across ice to Cassandra Biblow who moved toward the net. Instead of taking a contested shot, Biblow passed back to Bienek who converted her shot.

Both teams spent plenty of time in special teams during the remainder of the contest, but neither cracked and the 2-1 score eventually went final.

Trine falls to 5-10-2 overall and 1-8-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will finish off their extensive home stand next weekend when they host Lake Forest College. The first game of the back-to-back is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, January 23.
