Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Capouch Rains in Five Triples, Women's Basketball Bites Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. – A dominant second half led the Trine University women's basketball team to its 25th consecutive MIAA victory on Saturday afternoon against the Adrian College Bulldogs. Ally Capouch nailed five three pointers and had a game high 22 points for Trine (13-3, 7-0 MIAA) who outscored the Bulldogs (7-10, 3-5 MIAA) 41-23 in the second half.

Capouch gave the Thunder a 5-3 lead in the first quarter with her first long ball. Annika Southworth scored two of her eight to stretch the lead to 7-3. She added seven rebounds and four assists for an all around performance. Zoe Willems scored three of her six points to break a 7-all tie.

Capouch took over early in the second quarter to give Trine a six-point lead. She made a pair of free throws then added another triple and ended the outburst with a jumper in the lane. Adrian responded by turning the 19-13 lead into a 27-22 deficit. Addison Hutson cut the lead to three and MIAA Player of the Week Madison Wagner leveled the score with a three pointer to send the game to the break at 27 apiece.

Coach Rang's halftime adjustments proved true when the Thunder raced out to a 14 point lead in the third quarter. Capouch buried a pair of triples and then converted on an and-one. Hailey Cole added two of her 13 points to put the Thunder in firm control, up 40-31. Wagner and Olivia Marks piled on to stretch the lead to 14. Marks nearly tallied another double-double with eight points and 10 boards.

Adrian trimmed the lead to seven by the start of the fourth quarter but Trine would use a 22-11 advantage to take control early and cruise to the win. The Thunder scored the first seven to put the game in hand. Marks started with a jumper, then Cole added to it at the free throw line and Southworth scored three the old fashioned way. Capouch added her fifth three of the day at the halfway point to start a second run. Trine led 65-45 on a Willems three point play that solidified the win.

Trine travels to Calvin on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff in a rematch of last season's MIAA Championship Game.
