Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Vikings Down Women's Hockey

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team dropped the first half of their weekend series against Lawrence University by the score of 2-1.

Both teams looked flatfooted during the first period, which passed with little of note. The Thunder had a flurry of activity late in the period, taking a 14-7 lead in shots on goal into the first intermission, but the scoreboard showed zeros.

Just half of a minute into the second period the Vikings broke the tie, cashing in on a rebound off one of seven saves by Zsuzsa Révész in the period.

Trine responded three minutes later. After the visitors cleared the zone leaving the puck in the Thunder's defensive zone, Kalli Graham launched a beautiful pass up the ice, including a bounce off the boards. The pass ended up on the stick of Sofia Koppa just as she crossed the blueline into the offensive zone. She converted on the breakaway to tie the game with a 1-1 score.

Seven more minutes of play and Lawrence retook the lead, making the score 2-1 with under nine minutes remaining in the second. Neither team scored through the rest of the contest and the Vikings kept the puck near the Thunder goal, keeping the Révész in the net until the final seven seconds. Révész finished the game with 23 saves.

Trine falls to 5-9-2 overall and 1-7-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, January 17 when they finish their series against the Vikings. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
