ALBION, Mich. – Four Thunder scored in double figures as the Trine University men's basketball team picked up a sixth win in seven games on Wednesday night.
Danny Flood led Trine (10-4, 2-1 MIAA) with 17 points as the Thunder held off a late rally from Albion (8-6, 1-2 MIAA) for a 73-69 victory.
Logan McKenzie added 15 points and
Jayden Bradshaw and
Cade Brenner pitched in 12 and 13, respectively. Flood connected on five of ten three pointers.
Flood turned a 5-4 deficit into a 10-7 lead with a pair of threes on consecutive possessions. That sparked a 22-8 run that he capped off with another long ball. Bradshaw added a triple and Brenner added four. Trine stretched the lead to 15 with another run. Bradshaw was fouled on a three point attempt and earned all three at the line, he found
Paxton Crane on the next possession for a score inside. Flood again rang true from beyond the arc to complete the run. The Thunder took a 36-31 lead into the break.
Albion had the advantage out of halftime, using a 15-3 run to claim a seven point lead. Flood responded with his fifth triple of the night.
Nate Tucker continued the momentum with an assist to
Logan McKenzie for a bucket in the paint and then a steal that turned into a triple from Brenner for a 47-46 lead. Neither team led by more than five from there with the lead changing on nearly every made basket. Trine regained the lead with 4:01 left on a lay-in from
Drew Panning. Albion answered right back with one of their own to lead 69-67. Trine scored their last six from the free throw line, connecting on each attempt. McKenzie made four and Bradshaw iced the game with 13 seconds left with a pair.
Trine renews the Border Brawl on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when they host Adrian inside the MTI Center.
