WHEATON, Ill. – A battle of the Thunder came up on the wrong end for the Trine University women's soccer team, falling to Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday night. Trine suffers their first loss of the year and is now 2-1-1, Wheaton improves to 3-0-1.
The damage came in the 53
rd minute when Wheaton got the ball into the Thunder's 18-yard box, a pass set up Lily Lindquist for a goal that would prove to be the difference in the game. It is the first and only goal allowed by the Thunder all year. Trine outshot the hosts 8-7 including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Abby Robison led with four shots and two on target.
Madison Kinneer made two saves in goal. Like yesterday, Trine's shots on goal came in the second half. Robison's first came in the 50
th minute but was turned away trying the low center on the net.
Julia Benham tried the bottom left in the 59
th minute but found the same success.
Dana Fish made an attempt at the bottom center as well in the 76
th minute and Robison's last effort went top middle but was again turned away.
Trine is off until next Sunday when they face #1 and defending national champions, Washington (Mo.). That game is set for an 11 a.m. kick at Weaver Field.
