Women's Soccer Ends #1 WashU's 11-game Winning Streak

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against #1 and defending national champions, Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday afternoon at Weaver Field. The draw snaps the Bears 11 match winning streak dating back to the beginning of last season's NCAA Tournament. The Bears have not lost since the 2023 NCAA National Championship Game. Trine moves to 2-1-2 and the Bears are dealt their first blemish, now 5-0-1.

Abby Robison netted an 18th minute goal to provide the scoring for the Thunder. Trine managed six shots in the first half, three were on target. The Thunder applied the pressure early, earning a corner kick in the fifth minute. Maggie McDowell was able to get a shot of low center but was turned away. In the 15th minute, Lilly White corralled the ball after a blocked shot and fired one of her own to the top left, the Bears keeper made an acrobatic save to prevent the score. Robison had the Thunder's next opportunity; White played the ball up the left side to Robison who took it with her back turned to the goal at the top right corner of the Bears 18-yard box. She turned left and beat her defender before firing a high arching shot to the top right corner past the outstretched arms of the leaping WashU goalie.

Trine's lead would hold for nearly 35 minutes. Madison Kinneer made eight saves in the match, three coming in the first half. Her best performance came in the closing minutes. A 51st minute goal leveled the score. WashU frantically tried to preserve their winning streak and perfect 5-0-0 record. The Bears had two breakaway opportunities in the 86th and 89th minutes. Kinneer turned away the first shot that came right up the middle of the field and to the low center of the goal. The next shot came from her left side off the foot of 2024 NCAA Tournament Offensive MVP Olivia Clemons, Kinneer made a diving save to dash the Bears hopes of stealing the win. Freshman Jill Taylor was exceptional on the defensive end, limiting Clemons to just one shot while playing the full 90 minutes.

Trine heads to Decatur, Ill. on Wednesday for a game against Millikin. That match is set for a 4 p.m. kick.
