Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scully's Pair Leads Thunder to 4-1 Win over Titans

ANGOLA, Ind. – Erin Scully netted a pair of goals as the Trine University women's soccer team used a big second half to pull away from the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. Trine (4-1-2) scored three second half goals to break a 1-1 tie and score a 4-1 win over IWU (4-3-0).

Trine held an advantage of 16-9 in shots, 10-7 in shots on goal, and 12-2 in corner kicks. The Thunder's second half offensive explosion was backed up by another masterful performance from the defense. Trine limited the Titans to nine shots and most were from long range or in close quarters, the play of MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, Jill Taylor was again a factor along with Francesca Fronczak. Liza Wiley and Sophie Lampert led the Titans with 40 combined shots entering the game, Trine limited the duo to just two.

Trine drew first blood in the 21st minute. Trine held possession and advanced the ball into the Titans' goal box on a ball played to Abby Robison, IWU's keeper made a hard charge toward the ball, Robison made a quick pass to Maggie McDowell who made the easy tap in goal. IWU answered quickly with a goal in the 29th minute to take a 1-1 tie to the break. Trine wasted no time in the second half, earning a pair of corner kicks. The second resulted in a pair of shots, the first from Darcy Satkowiak ricocheted off the keeper and settled at the feet of Lilly White who was able to find the back of the net. Scully then took over, firing a shot that was barely tipped by the Titans' keeper and earning the Thunder a corner kick. The corner attempt was unsuccessful and cleared into the midfield; Scully gained possession and weaved through the Titans defense, fired a shot to the low right and past the keeper for goal number one. The next goal came with assistance from Robison who had a pair on the day. Scully again found the low right of the net to put an exclamation on the win.

Trine will stay at home for their next contest, a 2 p.m. tilt with Wittenberg University on September 27th on Shive Field.
