FISHERS, Ind. – The Trine University women's triathlon team opened the 2025 season with a second-place finish at the Geist Waterfront Triathlon. Three of the team's racers finished in the top ten at the event.
North Central College won the event with 174 points, while the Thunder posted a score of 162 points. Northern Kentucky University came in third with 114 points.
Grace Huisman led the team throughout the contest, and in fact sat in second place overall throughout. She finished the race in 1:03:51, one minute back from the winner from North Central. The swim was the best leg of her race by rank; she had the second-best time among the field. She was third on the bike and sixth in the run.
Mia Griesmeyer finished second on the team and fourth overall in the event. She made up eight spots in the running leg of the race where she posted the fourth best time among the field. She finished the race with an overall time of 1:06:27.
Lia Bartholomew was the final member of the squad to finish in the top ten, placing seventh as an individual with a time of 1:08:02. She made huge gains in both the bike and the run after exiting the water in 19th place. She was sixth best in the bike and eighth in the run.
Tessa Szymanski came in just outside of the top group, finishing 12th with a time of 1:09:17. She had a great swim on the day, exiting the water in fourth. Carmen Blaine rounded out the scoring times for Trine with a 1:13:02 finish, 18th overall. She gained her ground in the first transition, improving her swim finish by six spots and then adding four more in the bike and then one more in the run.
Trine will next race when they host the Trine Splash and Dash, two thirds of a triathlon sprint. That event is scheduled for Thursday, September 18 with a 5 p.m. start.
