ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Women's Lacrosse team rallied to a come from behind win on Saturday evening as they took down Albion 9-8.
Izabelle Dominski and
Elizabeth Larson had hat tricks to lead the Thunder (7-2, 2-0 MIAA) over the Britons (3-7, 1-1 MIAA).
Albion jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter, Dominski and Larson kept the Thunder within three with goals. Trine would allow just three goals the rest of the game and
Kelsey Yanagihara made seven stops in the net for Trine the rest of the way. The Thunder cut the lead to 6-4 at the break with goals from
Avelyn McCall and
Brooke Hoag.
Dominski and Larson scored the first four goals of the second half for the Thunder as each completed their hat tricks, both players' third goals came a man up with the teams combining for 13 cards. Larson's third goal gave Trine their first lead of the game with 12:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. Albion quickly tied the game at 8. The next six minutes were a defensive slugfest, Yanagihara made three saves to help Trine hold the tie. Up a man with 5:30 to play,
Alyssa Lahutsky broke through the Briton defense for game winning goal. Albion had one last chance with 20 seconds to play, up a man. The Thunder defense stood tall and forced Albion to call timeout with 8 seconds left. Trine looked to have completed the last second stand but Albion was awarded a free position shot with one second remaining, they were unable to get the shot off in time and Trine completed the comeback.
The Thunder host Alma next Tuesday at 4:00 P.M.
