ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University baseball teamed snapped a 10 game losing streak on Friday afternoon with a 9-7 win over the Alma College Scots.
Owen Mitchell picked up the win for the Thunder,
Luke Burford extended his hitting streak to six games and
William Taczak led with three hits.
Alma struck first in the second inning with a solo home run, Trine answered with three runs in the second to take the lead.
Cole Temple scored
Nathan Gilmet on an RBI single, Temple scored later on a throwing error by the Scots' shortstop along with
Preston Henschen. Alma regained control with three runs of their own in the third inning and pulled away with three more in the fourth. Trine answered in the fifth with two runs on a Gilmet double and Temple single. The Thunder took the lead for good in the sixth inning with
Dane DuBois scoring on an error. Taczak drove in
Luke Burford and
Cole Schmidthuber to take the lead 8-6,
Joel Walton pushed Taczak across in the next at bat for an insurance run.
Mitchell was hot near the end, allowing just one base runner over his final three innings.
Dylan Jenkins earned the save, allowing one run in one inning of work.
Trine heads to Alma tomorrow afternoon to close out the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
