FORT WAYNE, Ind. –
Joel Walton and
Luke Burford each collected two hits for the Trine University baseball team who fell to Manchester 14-6 on Tuesday night at Parkview Field. Parkview Field is home to the Fort Wayne Tincaps of the Midwest League; they are the High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Trine falls to 9-24 and Manchester improves to 21-11.
The Spartans scored the first eight runs of the game before a
William Taczak double put Burford in scoring position. He scored in the next at bat on a wild pitch, Walton then singled past the third baseman a drove in Taczak. Trine scored four more in the bottom of the eighth the first two coming on a
Justin Hamberg RBI walk via a wild pitch and
Preston Henschen scoring on a balk. Burford looped a double to right field for two RBIs but was thrown out trying to reach third and ended the inning. Trine trailed 10-6. Manchester scored four more runs in the ninth with Trine unable to answer.
The Thunder will begin their series with Alma at Jannen Field on Friday at 4 p.m.
