ANGOLA, Ind. –
Macy Rocha launched home runs in each of Sunday's contests for the #7 Trine University Softball team who ran their win streak to 17 with a sweep of the Adrian College Bulldogs. Trine is now 22-4 (6-0 MIAA) Adrian falls to 15-11 (3-3 MIAA).
Emma Beyer led the Thunder with four hits on the day,
Karley Trine,
Tyra Marcum,
Emma Lee and
Macy Rocha had three each. Lee and
Whitney Duell scored three runs each.
Alexis Michon was spectacular as usual in game one, going the distance and allowing just two base runners and striking out nine. She struck out the side in the first inning looking and the third inning side swinging. The offense backed her up with nine runs to force the run rule after the fifth, 9-1.
Whitney Duell scored in the first to give the Thunder the lead. Trine hung a crooked number in the third to blow the game open.
Tyra Marcum got things started with a two RBI single before scoring on a throwing error. Rocha then launched a no doubter over the left center field fence to push the lead to 6-0.
Emma Beyer drove in
Emma Lee to round out the six run inning. Adrian answered in the fourth with a run on an error. Rocha drove in another in the fourth and
Mila Stepanovich rounded out the scoring on a passed ball.
Rocha was back at it in game two, this time to right center field to start the scoring in the second inning. Beyer drove in Lee to make it 2-0. Trine added four in the third with
Tyra Marcum driving in Duell, then scoring alongside
Karley Trine on a
Debbie Hill double.
Emma Lee drove in
Maddie Cortez who pinch ran for Hill. Trine added two more in the fifth, Beyer drove in Lee for the third and final time and then scored on a throwing error. Hill was also spectacular in the circle, allowing one hit and no runs in the 8-0 five inning shutout.
Trine travels to Saint Mary's on Wednesday for a MIAA doubleheader.
