Men's Volleyball Stays Hot in Pennsylvania

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Trine University Men's Volleyball team pounded 42 kills and hit .376 as they ran their win streak to seven in Friday night's match against Eastern (Pa.). Karl Both tallied three of Trine's seven aces and Ryan McDonald was again spectacular in the middle, handing out 28 assists. Trine is now 7-4 while Eastern falls to 5-4.
 
Kevin Boncaro thundered home 16 kills while hitting .355 and Carter Steffgen and Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai each had eight. Both added six more and hit .625.
 
Trine swept the match in straight sets 25-12, 25-16, 25-23. Boncaro got started early, scoring three of Trine's first four points via kill. Eastern challenged Trine's early lead, pulling within 1 at 11-10. The Thunder would have none of it, closing the set with a 14-2 run as Boncaro, Ho'okano-Pelekai, Both, and Steffgen all added two more kills.
 
Steffgen added two aces to open set two, but Eastern took an 8-7 lead, Trine quickly regained control with a 6-0 run behind four kills and two Both aces. Trine maintained their lead from there and Both ended the set with his third perfect serve.
 
The Thunder looked set to cruise to another dominant victory up 6-2 early in set three, but Eastern rallied to take a 10-8 lead. Both and Boncaro added kills and Boncaro served up an ace to give Trine the lead once more. Eastern tied it at 21 and the Thunder defense stood tall forcing two attack errors to close out the three set sweep.
 
Trine plays two more games on Saturday, first against Carlow and then taking on hosts Grove City.
