GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Trine University Men's Volleyball team posted their eighth straight victory this afternoon, taking down Carlow (Pa.) in straight sets. Trine hit .355 for the match and registered a dozen aces.
Luke Trotter led the way with four perfect serves. Trine is now 8-4 and Carlow drops to 0-7.
The Thunder rolled to dominant set wins of 25-8, 25-13, and 25-15.
Ryan Ford led the offense with 10 kills and hit .571.
Xander Ikusz opened set one with an ace, two kills from Ford and an ace from
Ethan McLenon helped Trine to a 6-3 advantage. The Celtics tied the set at 6, but Trine responded with a13-0 run backed by two aces from
Grayson Barnhill, three kills from Ford and four more kills from
Ty Freeman, Ikusz, and
Liam Northrup. Freeman served up two more aces t take set one.
Carlow jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set two, Trine got the offense going to rally back to a 10-10 tie. From there, Trine posted four more aces courtesy of Ikusz, Trotter and
Alex Swienton and got kills from
Evan Prinssen, Ford, and Northrup to close set two on a 15-3 run.
The Thunder kept the hammer down in set three, grabbing a quick 6-1 lead. The Celtics closed the gap to 17-14 but Trine again slammed the door with an 8-1 run to close out the match. Trotter notched his final two aces in that frame.
Trine was originally scheduled to play Grove City at 4:00 p.m., that match was cancelled due to weather. The Thunder head back to western Pennsylvania next weekend for a tri-match at Penn State Behrend. Trine will play Mount Aloysius at 3:00 p.m. before taking on the Nittany Lions at 5:00.
