ADA, Ohio – The Trine University women's lacrosse team earned a hard fought 16-15 non-conference win over Ohio Northern on Wednesday afternoon. A back and forth battle in the cold and rain saw the Thunder emerge victorious,
Alyssa Keptner scored a career-high 5 goals in the win. Trine is now 2-0 while the Polar Bears fall to 1-2.
Clinging to a one goal lead in the cold, wind, and rain with just two minutes left, Trine found themselves in a position they had been in twice in the second half. Leading by one with ONU holding the momentum. The previous two times, Northern was able to tie the game, but not this time.
Elizabeth Larson scooped up the draw control and took the Thunder into the offensive zone. After burning most of the 90-second shot clock,
Alyssa Keptner had the ball and four goals in her back pocket. Starting on the right side of the ONU goal she made her move to the crease, she stopped short and sent a dagger to the back of the net and put the Polar Bears on ice with 38 seconds left.
Trine found themselves in a 3-0 deficit just over 2 minutes into the game, Keptner provided the answer with 9:40 left in the first quarter,
Avelyn McCall provided the assist.
Elizabeth Larson and
Brooke Hoag each scored to knot the score at 3. ONU would counter with another 3-0 scoring spurt. Trine then countered with a 4-0 run to take a 7-6 lead into halftime, Larson scored a man-up goal with help from Hoag. She completed her first half hat trick with an unassisted goal
. Izabelle Dominski netted a free position shot to tie the score.
Alyssa Lahutsky scored a man-up to give Trine the lead at halftime.
Trine would not surrender the lead the rest of the way. ONU would tie it at 7 and 12 but the Thunder provided the answer both times. Dominski scored off the assist from McCall to start a 5-0 run. Keptner scored two free position shots and
Lillian O'Neal added another. Dominski bookended the run and secured her first career hat trick. ONU continued the back and forth battle with four consecutive goals in response. Larson notched her fourth goal to break the 12-all tie, Keptner and Dominski scored to push the Thunder lead to three. ONU drew within one with two minutes remaining. From there, Keptner delivered her career-high fifth goal to secure the win.

Trine heads to Franklin on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tilt with Franklin.
