Three Hat Tricks Lead Thunder Past Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University women's lacrosse team opened their season with a 14-10 win over Wittenberg on Sunday. Brooke Hoag netted five goals for the Thunder who now have their fourth consecutive season opening win. Trine is 1-0 and the Tigers are now 0-1. Trine is 3-0 all-time against the Tigers.

Hoag scored the first two goals for the Thunder, Alyssa Lahutsky then assisted Lillian O'Neal on the next two. The teams traded each of their first four goals, with Trine providing the answer each time. Hoag completed her first quarter hat trick with just 8 seconds remaining to give the Thunder their first lead. Hoag's goal marked the 100th of her career, becoming just the fifth player in program history to achieve the feat.

Leading 5-4, Alyssa Keptner scored unassisted to give Trine a two goal advantage. The Tigers responded with an unassisted goal and a man-up goal to level the score. Keptner completed a second quarter hat trick to give Trine an 8-7 lead at the half.

Lillian O'Neal completed the third hat trick of the day with the first goal of the third quarter, again the Tigers would answer. Izabelle Dominski scored the first goal of her career to give Trine a 10-8 lead. Trine led 11-10 after a Wittenberg goal. Elizabeth Larson scored two man-up goals and Hoag found the net for her fifth of the day. Kelsey Yanagihara would make 10 saves on the day but most importantly held the Tigers scoreless over the final 20:11 to secure the victory.

Trine heads back to Ohio on Wednesday for a match up with Ohio Northern. That game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
