Men's Lacrosse Repels Vikings

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team picked up their second win of the seasons, and the weekend, with a convincing 17-2 victory against visiting Lawrence University.

The Thunder scored the first six goals of the game, three in each of the first two quarters. JJ Boos struck first, just 38 seconds after the opening faceoff. Will Gonia, Collin Custer, Xavier Huber, Riley Fischer and Landen Kruse each added a goal to give the team the 6-0 lead with 6:15 remaining in the first half.

The Vikings scored one goal with a man advantage with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter. It was the final goal of the half with the teams heading to intermission with the score of 6-1.

Boos scored again to start the second half, starting another string of goals for the home team. Vin Pantano scored twice during the stretch along with Fischer and Custer, building an 11-1 lead. After a second and final goal by Lawrence with 4:17 remaining in the third quarter, the Thunder scored the final six goals of the game.

Connor Ballantyne and Custer each scored in the final minutes of the third quarter. Rocco Curatola and Mason Slazyk joined Pantano and Ballantyne in the fourth.

Custer led the team with three assists, giving him a game high six points in the contest. Pantano added an assist to his three goals to finish the game with four points and Fischer finished with three on the back of two goals and an assist.

Sean Kohloff finished the game 10 of 13 in the faceoff circle, while also leading the team with seven groundballs. Six different members of the team finished with two caused turnovers, with the Thunder totaling 14 altogether. In goal, Zade Gawrys led the team with two saves in his 30 minutes of play, earning his second win of the season.

The Thunder will continue their season when they travel to face Heidelberg University on Saturday, March 1. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
