ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University women's hockey team fell in the opening game of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs. Their hosts from Adrian College defeated them 7-0, despite another valiant performance in net by Annie Kindseth.
Kindseth started the game and played well into the third period. She finished the game with 65 saves and six goals against. That total is the third most in a single game for the Thunder and pushes the freshman's season total to 791, the most by any goalie in program history.
The defense did their best to take the pressure off the beleaguered goalie, coming up with 38 blocked shots. Three different skaters for the team ended the game with five or more, with Kailey Mleko leading the way with seven.
The team was never able to establish possession on the offensive side of the ice, finishing with just five shots on goal.
The Thunder will try to find answers before the second game of the weekend doubleheader. The team would need to win that contest and a mini game afterwards to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. They will start that task tomorrow, Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.
