ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University women's hockey team struck first in the contest, but ultimately fell to nationally-ranked Adrian College. The team bows out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 12-1 loss.
After winning the opening faceoff of the contest, the Thunder dumped the puck deep into the offensive zone landing it behind the net. Kailey Mleko dug it out of the boards giving Chloe Downey a chance to fire a pass back to the point. From their Kalli Graham threaded a shot through traffic and into the back of the net.
Unfortunately, the goal galvanized the Bulldogs, who spent much of the rest of the game in the offensive zone. Under the near constant barrage, Claire Schmaltz finished the game with 67 saves, but still allowed the 12 goals. The total is tied for second most in a single game for the program.
In addition to the saves, the Thunder finished the game with 25 blocks. Downey led the way with five while Abby Martin finished the game with four.
Trine finishes the season with an 8-17-2 record.
