KALAMAZOO, Ind. – The #9 Trine University Men's Basketball team dominated both halves of an 81-49 victory over Kalamazoo. Four Thunder scored in double figures, the defense forced 25 turnovers,
Drew Moore led all scorers with 17 and the Thunder improved to 21-3 (11-2 MIAA). The Hornets drop to 9-15 (2-11 MIAA).
Trine scored the games first 12 points and never let the Hornets within 8 from there.
Drew Moore splashed his first of three triples to get things started.
Emmanuel Megnanglo came up with a steal and sent it ahead to
Nate Tucker for the layup. It was Megnanglo's turn the next time down the floor sending home a dunk courtesy of
Cameron Awls. Moore nailed another triple and KZoo's coach decided it was time for a timeout. A Thunder line change kept the points coming
, Cam Smith answered the Hornets first basket with one of his own. Megnanglo was back in action for another dunk before
Aidan Smylie sent home a long ball.
Drew Moore kicked off a 14-4 run with his third triple of the half, Smylie added another to close the run. Trine led 43-23 at the break.
Trine pounded the ball down low to start the second half, scoring their first eight in the paint, Trine forced 15 second half turnovers as the Hornets never threatened the Trine lead.
Cam Smith scored nine points for a season high 13. Megnanglo and Tucker each had 10. Megnanglo also came up with 4 steals and was matched by Smylie who added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Smylie now has 188 career steals which sets a new program record for a career. With the win, Trine wraps up the 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament.
Trine heads to Calvin on Saturday to close out the regular season.
