ADRIAN, Mich. – Nationally ranked Adrian College was too much for the Trine University women's hockey team, handing them a 9-0 loss in the first half of a home-and-home doubleheader. Despite the lopsided loss, the Thunder secured a spot in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs due to other results around the conference.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked seventh in the latest USCHO.com Division III Coaches Poll, scored early and often in the contest on their way to the lopsided victory. They tallied four goals in the first, two in the second and three in the third to finish with the 9-0 lead.
Despite taking home a loss,
Annie Kindseth finished the game with 60 saves. The tally ties her for sixth most saves in a single game in program history. She matches a total posted by
Abbie Bost in 2020 also against Adrian, Bost is now an assistant coach for the team.
Offensively the Thunder were short on shots of their own, posting just nine as a team.
Kailey Mleko finished with three to lead the team.
Despite the loss, another loss by the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) secured Trine a spot in the NCHA playoffs, since the Raiders can no longer catch the Thunder in the standings. Their final position in the standings is still undecided.
Trine falls to 8-14-2 overall and 5-10-2 in NCHA play. They will host Adrian for the second game of the series tomorrow, Saturday, February 15. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
