ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team fell in the second half of the weekend doubleheader against Aurora University by the score of 3-1.
The Spartans scored the lone goal of the first period, taking advantage of one of their two power play chances. It could have been a lot worse for the Thunder, but Annie Kindseth played exceptionally in net, making 16 saves in the period. She ultimately finished the game with 42 despite the loss.
Trine scored their own goal near the midpoint of the second period. Emma-Lyn Stephenson caused a turnover in the defensive zone before making a quick pass up the ice for Avery Burrell. The freshman went the rest of the way before scoring the first goal of her career, knotting the game at one.
The score held through the next 20 minutes of game time, before Aurora retook the lead and then padded it in the final ten minutes of the game. Their pair of goals were both even strength tallies.
The Thunder fall to 7-12-2 overall and 4-8-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They finish the day seventh in the NCHA standings with 15 points. They are two points behind Marian University, one behind the Spartans and one ahead of Lawrence University. They will look to move up in those standings next week when they host the Sabres for a pair of games. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 7.
