ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team dropped their opening contest of the 2025-26 season with Concordia University Wisconsin silencing the home crowd with a 3-1 tally.
The Falcons scored the first two goals of the contest, both in the opening period. The first came just under 11 minutes into the contest on a deflected shot and the second came on a two-on-one breakaway. They were the lone marks on a strong period by the Thunder defense, especially by sophomore Annie Kindseth, who made 13 saves between the pipes.
Trine took advantage of a power play in the second period to get their first goal of the season. Ryleigh White won a hard-fought faceoff in the offensive zone, giving Dorka Gengeliczky the puck at the top of the near circle. The junior moved forward toward the net and fired a hard shot toward the net. The puck found the body of Olivia Porthan inside of the crease and bounced over the goalie for the score.
Just seconds after the goal Concordia Wisconsin responded to regain the two-goal advantage at 3-1.
The Thunder nearly added another in the later portion of the stanza. Once again with the advantage on the ice, the offense put together three quality scoring chances that had to be turned aside by a scrambling Falcons' defense.
Neither team scored in the final period, but it took a strong effort by Kindseth in net to keep it that way. She turned aside all 15 of the visiting shots in the final stanza, finishing the game with 33 saves despite the loss.
The Thunder will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, November 7 when they host the Falcons for the second game of the doubleheader. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
