CHARLOTTE, Mich. – The #8 Trine University women's cross country team added another chapter to a historic season. The Thunder have already achieved the program's fastest team race ever at the Rumble in the Fort, established six new top-20 all-time marks, and reached the highest national ranking in program history three times this season. They now add an elusive piece to the program's history, a conference championship. For the first time ever on Saturday, the Trine women captured a conference crown by dominating the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships.
Sidney Swick joined Amanda Portis and Evie Miller (Bultemeyer) as the third individual conference champion in program history. She captured First-Team All-MIAA honors as well as Most Valuable Runner awards in her triumph on Saturday afternoon. Swick claimed the win in 21:07.9 by nearly 30 seconds.
Swick wasn't the only dominant runner in a Trine uniform this afternoon. The Thunder claimed five of the top seven spots en route to a 33 point victory over Hope College.
Bailey Puckett took third place in 21:42.0, with
Chloe Goodrich close behind in fifth, crossing in 21:51.1.
Eleanor Young was sixth and
Courtney Study was seventh in 22:18.4 and 22:24.9 respectively. Each woman earned First-Team All-MIAA honors. Puckett, Swick, and Young have now earned back to back first team honors.
Chloe Goodrich was a second team honoree last year. Earning second team honors this year was
Grace Dubsky who placed 15
th in 22:33.0.
Trine will defend their #1 regional ranking in search of another program first in two weeks in Louisville, Ky.
