Thunder Drop MIAA Opener

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer dropped their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening match against Albion College. The visiting Britons won by the score of 4-0.

Albion had the first scoring chance of the game, forcing a save from Dillon Lambert in the 15th minute of play.

The Thunder responded ten minutes later with back-to-back attempts on goal. Salvatore Orlandi had the first, firing a shot from the center of the penalty area that went low and took the keeper to the ground. Minutes later Ben Borak fired from the far corner of the keepers area and forced a diving save to the left side of the net.

Albion broke up the tie in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. They went on to score three more goals in the second to take their final 4-0 lead.

Late in the game Orlandi almost started a comeback attempt, firing a pass across the face of the net that went just behind a teammate on the far side. A clean connection on the header would have ended in a goal for the team.

Lambert made six saves in the contest, including a few impressive efforts.

Trine falls to 1-9-1 overall and 0-1-0 in MIAA play after the loss. They will face Calvin University for their next match, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 11.
