NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Trine University women's soccer team fell to North Central (Ill.) in an offensive match by a score of 4-2.
Erin Scully and
Samantha Sanderlin scored for the Thunder. Trine is now 5-2-3 on the year and North Central improves to 6-5-0. With the loss, Trine completes arguably its toughest non-conference schedule in program history with a respectable 4-2-3 record including ending then #1 WashU's 11 match winning streak.
It was an uncharacteristic day for the usually stout Thunder defense. Trine entered the day having allowed just four goals all year while pitching five shutouts. The Cardinals nearly matched that total in just 16 minutes quickly taking a 3-0 lead.
Erin Scully stopped the bleeding with a 19
th minute goal.
Madison Kinneer rebounded from a rough start to make three saves over the final 20 minutes of the first half. She made seven on the day.
Trying to squash any hope of a comeback the regionally ranked Cardinals quickly added a fourth goal just four minutes into the second half. NCC is ranked 5
th in Region VIII while Trine is ranked 8
th. Trine would not go quietly, Sanderlin added a goal in the 67
th minute with help from
Darcy Satkowiak.
Trine will now turn its full attention to the MIAA schedule, taking on Calvin on Wednesday in Grand Rapids at 7:00 p.m.
