FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) wrestling coaches have selected Trine University to finish fifth in a close conference race according to the 2025 edition of the Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Thunder took the spot with 15 points in the poll. Point totals are determined by votes cast by the association's coaches, who cannot vote for their own team, with low point total receiving the top spot. Adrian College was narrowly selected first with five points and three first place votes. The University of Olivet came in second with six points and the rest of the first place votes. Albion landed square in the middle with ten points and Alma was just ahead of the thunder with 14 points.
Last season, the first under head coach Josh Stephenson, saw the Thunder finish 7-5 overall in dual matches and 1-3 during conference play. That lone win came over the Scots by 30-13.
Trine returns a few grapplers that picked up wins during last seasons conference slate. Ben Edwards and Tommy Miller return from the lower part of the lineup while Lakin Webb anchors the central part. Gavin Malone and Xander Matz-Lachance each return to the heavier weights after finding success near the end of the year.
The Thunder open their season tomorrow, Saturday, November 1 when they travel to the Adrian Invite. The tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m.
