ANGOLA, Ind. – Seven different Thunder netted goals in the Trine University women's soccer team's regular season finale on Tuesday night at Shive Field.
Erin Scully scored a pair of goals as the Thunder rolled to an 8-0 victory over The University of Olivet. Trine moves to 9-4-4 (5-2-1 MIAA) with the win while ending the Comets' season at 2-15-0 (0-8-0 MIAA).
The Thunder struck early and often in the first half, racking up 26 shots and 14 on goal in the first half.
Abby Robison opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the contest with a right footed goal.
Ava Leihgeber was next with a goal from the near side of the Comets' goal box. She turned left and beat her defender for an open shot at the bottom right corner of the goal.
Erin Scully scored just 23 seconds later after stealing the kick off and dribbling to the far corner of the box and firing a shot to the top center of the goal. Trine led 3-0 in just the seventh minute with the goal.
Scully scored again in the 14
th minute on a nearly identical goal.
Julia Benham was next in the 23
rd minute her shot banked in off the crossbar and ricocheted into the goal.
Maddie Gasaway found the bottom right of the net to give Trine a 6-0 lead heading into the break.
Trine slowed the pace in the second half, scoring a pair of goals.
Abigail Marks scored unassisted in the 67
th minute and
Samantha Sanderlin in the 83
rd minute.
Madison Kinneer saved the Comets only shot on goal for her eighth shutout of the season, tied for the most in a single season in program history.
Trine will host Adrian in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday at Shive Field at 7:00 p.m.
